HUNTERVILLE

PLUNKET SOCIETY The meeting of the local brunch oi the Plunket Society for the month of May was held on Saturday. Those present were: Mesdames Bull, Ellis, Wm. .Wilson, Grant, Simpson, R. G. Dalziell, Mair, A. G. Simpson, Butement, Thompson. Apologies were received from Mesdames Cunningham and Duncan. In the absence of Mrs Duncan, Mrs Bull presided. Nurse’s report for May is as follows: New babies enrolled this month, 3. Visits paid, to homes, 4. Visitors to rooms: Adults 40, babies 38, children 10. The general health of mothers and babies hud been good. In connection with the desire and effort of the Plunket Society to regain Tuesday as stock sale day a letter was received from the Hunterville Town Board assuring the society of its very sincere co-operation and sympathy in this matter. In an effort to raise funds to meet the expenses of this current year, Mrs Butement with the help of others, is arranging a dance to be held on May 21. The list of those who, during the current year have contributed the sum of 5s and over is: Mesdames Robb, Butement, Ellis ,Klue, W. Simpson, TT. G. Dalziell, Wm. Wilson, Cunningham, J. Bull, A. Bull, Grant Simpson, A. A. Green, Mair, L. Bull, Messrs Gregory and Sutton. OBITUARY MRS DEI HL The death occurred at Rata on Monday of Mrs Anna Jane Delhi, ageef 65 years. Her husband predeceased her some years ago and a family of two sons are left, Mr Deihi, of Rata, being one. The funeral will take place at Karori Cemetery, Wellington) to-day. SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Hunterville School Committee was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs B. M. S. Jones (chairman). K. Dukeson (secretary), W. G. Cunningham, W. O’Brien, G. Stratford. Apologies for absence were received from Mr W. J, Whyte and Dr. Pitcaithly. Accounts amounting to £7 Is w 3d were passed, for payment. The Education Board wrote stating that capitation allowance will in future be paid at the end of each term. If funds were short progress reports could be made. The chairman reported that £2l had been received. A notice in reference to dental clinics was received stating that it would bo necessary for committees to contribute £3O per annum towards the cost of the dental nurse. Committees would be permitted to make a small charge for treatment. It was decided to call a meeting of the dental clinic committee on Thursday 28th inst., at 2.°0 p.m. The time for applications for cleaner was extended for a week, the chairman and secretary to have power to deal with tenders received. The conditions were modified somewhat. The headmaster’s report was read. The average attendance was 157.5 and roll number 166.9. Messrs Cunningham and Dukeson were appointed a visiting committee for the month. RABBIT BOARD A meeting of the Hunterville Rabbit Board was Held on Saturday, Mr R. G. Dalziell presiding. Also present: Messrs G. Simpson, \V. A. Illston, J. Leslie Lambert, L. E. Weston, C. W. Newport. It was decided on the motion of the chairman and Mr Illston that Messrs Weston and Lambert be delegates to the annual conference of Babbit Boards at Feilding on June 10. The inspectors’ reports were read and discussed and the board expressed its confidence in the actions of the inspectors. On the motion of the chairman and Mr Weston it was decided to instal a telephone in the residence of the assistant inspector as soon as possible. Accounts amounting to £77 0s 6d were passed for payment. COMING OF AGE PABTY AT PUKEBOA A dance, which was largely attended, was given by Mr and Mrs F. W. Lock at ‘ ‘The Lakes” Pukeroa, on Saturday night, on the occasion of the coming of age of Mr Rex Lock. Mr Watkins, who acted as M.C., proposed the toast of Bex, on the occasion of his 21st birthday, all heartily responding a..d singing “For he’s a jolly good fellow.” Willing hands assisted Mrs Lock in dispensing an excellent supper, while a variety of local talent provided music for the dance which was continued until midnight. PERSONAL Mrs W. C. Smith is visiting Shannon on. holiday. Mrs B. A. Gordon is visiting Patca. Miss N. Watt is spending a fortnight’s holiday in Wanganui. Mr and Mrs V. F. B. Kogers and family, of Dauevirke, are visiting Mr and Mrs A. Kilniinster, Hunterville. Miss K. L. Howie is in Wellington attending the annual re-union of ex-Training College students. Mrs Higgins and Miss N. Higgins left yesterday for Wanganui where they will spend the winter months. Messrs R. A. Gower, T. Chisholm, J. Goodwin, A. Charles and A. Trevena are at Tokaanu fishing. Mr A. Charles, postmaster Ohingaiti, is on annual leave. Mr L. C. Farmer is relieving during Mr Charles’ absence. Miss E. L. Paterson, assistant at. Ohingaiti School, is spending the holidays with her mother at Patca. Mr and Mrs G. Petherick, sufferers by the earthquake, who have been in Hunterville for the past there months, returned to their home in Napier yesterday.
