Whn the second stage of the “double twelve” international automo bile race started at Brooklands this morning, the British “baby” cars, which had surprised the handicappers and other exports by the amazing speed they maintained through yesterday’s twelvo-hours’ run, were in a very favourable position. Even when heavy rain made driving difficult they continued to lap for hour after hour at only a little under 70 miles an hour, sometimes exceeding that speed. In accordance with the rules of the race, all the cars had neon locked up during the night, and no work was allowed on them until after the starting signal this morning. One of a team of midgot cars, driven by Lord Alarch and Air Staniland, con tinned to lead. An Italian car driven by the Italian ace, Ramponi, and Air Eyston from which much was expect od, broke its axle Into last night and is out of tho race.
