FARMERS’ UNION At a well attended meeting of farmers, held at Ohakeu last week, it was resolved to form a branch of the New Zon’d ad Farmers’ Union and Dairy Farmers’ Union, and Air R. Anderson was appointed president and L. H. Tremaine secretary pro tern. Air J. Boyce, a member of the Alanawatu executive oi the N.Z. Farmers’ Union arid Dairy Farmers’ Union, addressed the meeting, outlining the position of tho affiliated unions, which were working in perfect harmony. The position was that farmers combine and pull together to face the present crisis, and thus make their presence felt. Air Boyce outlined the working of the qualified moratorium, and the relief to be gained thereby. Air L. Poupard, a member of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, said that the chief difficulty which the farmer had t.j coaterd with was that of interest. That all action so far taken had been futile in relieving production costs was well known, and the speaker showed how the rise had occurred, and how interest charges had risen in relation to other costs, the cost over the past two years being £260 to produce £2OO, and the farmer, in addition, having to Jive out of capital. Air Nelson explained the Irving Fisher Compensation Dollar plan, and its application to New Zealand. A vote of thanks to the chairman and visitors terminated tho meeting.
