COUNCIL ELECTION The re-count of votes in the election of council gave Joseph Frederick Cody and W. Somerville Baird each 228. The Act provides that the returning officer •‘hall determine by lot which candidate shall be elected and this was done by the official and his assistant and -Mr Baird was the lucky candidate, and he thus replaces Mr Cody. Unemployed As the result of the concert arranged by Airs Beck and party about. £l7 to £lB was made available for the pur phase of goods for distribution among the families of the unemployed.
