MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
CHRISTCHURCH COUNCIL [ Per Press Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, May 9. As the result of tho distribution of Yfr Archer’s surplus votes, .Messrs Bar nett’ and McCombs, M.P. (two Labour candidates) have been elected to the City Connell. The present position is: Labour 4, Citizens 2, Independent 1. Further counts under the preferential system are proceeding. LABOUR MAJORITY | Per Press Association. I CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. At tho end of the ninth count of votes under the proportional repre sentation system, eight city councillors have been declared elected and it appeal's certain that there will be a Labour majority Councillors elected are: Rev. Archer. Mr McCombs, M.P.. Mrs McCombs and Mr Barnett (all Labour). Messrs Andrews. Beanland and Lyons (Citizens’ Association), and Air Evans (Independent). The position of the parties will probably be: Labour 8, Citizens’ Association 7. Independent 1; or possibly 8-6-2. In either ease Labour, with a Labour Mavor. .is sure of a majority.
