The Piako County Council, which, already has reduced its staff and haa administrative costs well below’ neighbouring counties, decided on further econoni’ ; to-day when wages and salaries were reduced all round. Casual workers were reduced from 14s 6d to 14s; a foreman and others getting 17a 2d pci day to 16s; and the engineering and clerical staff reduced 10 per cent. The chairman will forgo his honorarium and the councillors their travelling expenses for three months.
