Unusual Christmas Gifts.

If you want something quite different from the usual Christinas present, pay a visit to the Glory Box (next Gas Office), where you can buy rare examples of Chinese art, and quaint and fascinating curios from the East, which have just been unpacked. First of all —there arc hand carved wooden toys in groat variety, brassware, necklaces of radiant amber, and polished beads, bracelets, and picturesque porcelain ware. One beautiful and rare piece is a Kwan Yin goddess in blue porcelain. For the lover of unique relief carved wood-w T ork, there are wall plaques, so exquisitely fashioned and tinted that perfect pictures aro the result; to accompany them aro table telephone screens all of the same dainty work, each item a perfect gift. Linen of all sorts with a wealth of wonderful stitchcry, and many novelties can be bought at the Glory Box. I must not forget to tell you of tlic Chinese cabinets with all the marvellous dignity and beauty of Eastern workmanship. Also the carved table lamps—one with a group of Chinese figures of ancient story, at base, with a dragon overhead from which is suspended a miniature pagoda all gorgeously carved and delicately tinted. It would make a delightful gift. Electric Cooking Demonstration. Ladies should not neglect the opportunity of attending the cooking demonstration at the Power Board’s Rooms on "Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. The ranges aro clean and easily managed and if properly used consume very little power. The cleaning is light, taking little time or labour. By cooking in rotation and with stored heat one can cook a lot with the smallest con-

sumption of power. One can do more cooking and also do it quicker as the range requires no stoking and very little attention. "When cooking entirely with stored heat, o.«u can prepare a meal and after putting it all in the oven can go out for the morning or afternoon and know that when you return the meal wi r be perfectly cooked. Thon the boiling plates can be used as girdles for making pikelets or scones.
