ROAD WORK PROGRAMME

HON. W. A. VEITCH EXPLAINS. According to the Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister for Railways and Member for Wanganui, the fact that men from Wellington are being employed on relief works in this district will’not prejudice tho chance of local men obtaining employment. Tn a statement to the press he said that the position in Wellington became so desperate that it was necessary to find emnloyment for about one hundred men. They had been drafted for work on the Wanganui River Road, and Wangaehu Valley Road and were expected to start within a few days. The Afinister stated that surveys of other road work were being carried out in tho district and a p: jgramme would be arranged to absorb local unemployed. It mentioned several miles of widening to be undertaken on the Parehauhau Road, new formation on tho Ohuakukura-Karioi Road and the fact that about 50 men would be employed on the Wangaehu Valley Road, Wanganui River Road and Atangawhero Road as soon as the spoil dried out sufficient- ■« >yHo reverted again to the time worn reference to the completion o e survey to the lower end of the Parapara Road.
