UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD
CHRISTMAS RELIEF SUBSIDY [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. Members of the Unemployment Board will reassemble at Wellington to-mor-row after spending the week-end in various centres in conference with local body representatives concerning thw decision to make a total of £25,000 available throughout New Zealand for relief works over Christmas and tho Now Year. Reports will be made to the Board by members upon the outcome of their conversations, and ways and means of distributing money upon a conditional subsidy basis of £2 for £1 will bo discussed.
The first instalment of tho annual levy, 30s to be paid by all males over the age of 20, fell due to-day, and there was a notable increase in the payments throughout the country. A largo number had paid either the whole levy or the first instalment, before. It iw estimated that about 150,000 persons have already made some payment under the Act.
