NATIONAL HOME FOR JEWS

BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S SCHEME. ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION URGED. i British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Nov. 18. During a debate in the House of Commons night on Palestine the Undersecretary for the Colonies, Mr Drummond Shiels, announced that Britain would make itself responsible for a Palestine development loan of £2,500,000. The debate was mainly concerned with discussion on the Government’s recent White Paper. On behalf of the Government both Mr Shields and the Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s intentions to stand by the full mandate and carry out the policy of the 1922 White Paper. Every opportunity would be given for' the establishment of a national home for Jows consistent with the obligations imposed on the Government by the other side of the mandate, and it • uld work for the prosperity and happiness of the whole country.

The Prime Minister said the Jews must believe the Government would go as fast as it could within economic unity. He paid a fine tribute to their development work and to the general benefits the Jews had conferred on the country. They need only realise that the Jewish national home could best be promoted by economic co-operation with the Arabs. The Government was already in consultation with the Zionists and would welcome similar touch with the Arabs.
