A HAPPY GATHERING
There was a very happy gathering at the Wanganui Croquet green yesterday, when an afternoon was held in' honour of the 80th. birthday of Airs Wcdderspoon. Archdeacon Creed Meredith, in a happy speech, congratulated Airs Wcdderspoon on still being able to play a good game of croquet, and of her intention of taking part in the (Dominion Tournament, to be held at Christchurch in January. On behalf of the club, Archdeacon Creed Alercdith, presented the guest of honour with a bridge set. Airs Wcdderspoon received the congratulations of tho club members and responded with a brief speehc. Air Wcdderspoon, in order to commemorate his wife’s birthday, gave the club sufficient flower creepers to plant at all tho shelters.
A delicious afternoon tea was served and was much enjoyed by all present. The ceremony concluded w’ith tho singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow’.” At tho tournament in Christchurch, Airs AVoddcrspoon will play with Air A. Ross in tho handicap doubles. A team from Gonvillc played the AVanganui Club for the ATcLood Cup. Gonvillc proving victorious by 5 points.
