ROOT-GROWING COMPETITIONS. In the Wanganui provincial district root-growing competition the following recommendations were made by a sub committee from Alaxwell and Brunswick, regarding the regulations govern ing the “Sutton and Cooper” cups for root-growing competition:— Drills.—That the minimum distance between drills be 21 inches. Area.—Mangolds, half acre; carrots, quarter acre. Points. —Crop, one point per ton; con dition, .10 points; quality. .10 points. in the Taranaki and Wanganui districts these competitions have proved successful, the officers of the Depart ment of Agriculture doing the judging and also giving lectures to farmers in connection with the root-growing. The Waverley branch of the Farm ers’ Union is prepared to hold a root growing competition in the district if there are sufficient entries. Several farmers have already put in theii names in order to get the competition
