THE LYONS DISASTER

RECOVERY OF VICTIMS Received Nov. 15, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 15. A message from Lyons states that seven bodies, including that of a baby, have been recovered, together with six injured. A rescued woman and a baby died in Hospital. Tottering buildings, which threatened 300 workers, were dynamited, but the wing of the Chazeaux Hospital, the walls of which are badly cracked still balance precariously on the edge of a chasm.

A torrent of water poured out from the gap in the hills and doubled the difficulties of removing the debris until a temporary pipeline diverted the flow. Enormous works must be constructed to hold up the remainder of the hilltop, which is crowned with historic edifices.

THIRTY-SEVEN DEAD. Received Nov. 17, 1 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 16. The Lyons landslide death-roll is 3v. Three thousand soldiers and firemen are clearing the debris, and the work is expected to take a fortnight.
