Melbourne cricket match in Victoria on a recent Saturday afternoon, the Mayor of Collingwood. Mr J. Eastman, officially named the Ryder Stand, the building of which was finished recently, and unveiled a tablet commemorating Ryder’s services to the Collingwood Club. The Mayor spoke appreciatively of the cricketing service Ryder had given to the district. Mr George Phillips, the first secretary and one of the founders of the club, said Ryder had been playing with the team for 25 years. He was the only one of the original team who was still playing. The honour that had been done Ryder by naming the new stand after him, Mr Phillips said, was fully deserved. He had been an ornament to cricket wherever he had played.

“I must thank the cricket club for the honour they have done me this afternoon,” said Ryder. “My association with this club —in fact, with cricketers in general—has been most happy. I like the game, I like playing it, and I like looking on. I can say no more.”
