Sir, —Re your leader in this morning paper, if space is available, I would like to make a reply. As regards any contemplated sacrifice made by salaried officers. (1) Is such sacrifice comparable with what the producer is up against whose income has completely disappeared altogether! (2) Is there any sacrifice even comparing cost of living with conditions ruling two years’ ago! Rents arc lower, sugar, butter and other com modifies 30 per cent, lower. We have half priced sales every week in cloth ing, stores, and in every case the man on a fixed salary has opportunatic* denied his loss fortunate neighbour! What we want are facts and not false sympathy and if the community must economise then I maintain that the man who is fortunate enough these times to have, a good salary, independent of economic conditions is the man who should bo prepared to take a reduction and so help tnc community.
