THE PROGRESS OF MUSIC

Sir, —Alany of your readers will be interested in the progress of music. To those who are contemplating a visit to Europe, may I point out that next year (1931) the second Anglo-Ameri-can Alusic Education Conference will be held from July 31 to August 7 in Lausanne, Switzerland, and that professional and amateur musicians and music-lovers from New Zealand will there receive a cordial welcome and find much inspiration and interest. The conference will survey and discuss almost the entire field of musical activity and education, and will include musical performances by members, such as recitals and choral work, ami also free periods for sight-seeing and excursions. The inclusive Conference fee, travelling from England, will be from 11 guineas upward according to accommodation and class of travel. As one who attended the Conference la*t year may I say that it was a most happy experience for any musician. The trip may easily be extended fur holiday purposes. Those desirous of attending the Conference should write at once to the British Chairman of lhe Music. Education Conference, 1931. c/o Messrs Thos. Cook ar.«l Son, Ltd., Berkeley Street, London, W.l, or communicate with Messrs Thus. Cook and Son’s agencies in Auckland. Wellington or Christchurch. A number of detailed circulars will be available at each local branch of the New Zealand Society of Professional Teachers of Music, or from Mr E. C. (’achcmaillo, 49 Ballance Street. Wellington.

Thanking you for kindly giving publicity to this important step in promoting musical culture. E. DOUGLAS TAYLER. Education Department, Wellington, 7/11/30.
