A SPEECH INTERRUPTED •BIG BILL” SERIOUSLY JU. NEW YORK, Nov. 1. Received Nov. 2. 8.35 p in. Chicago’s Mayor “Big Bill” Thompson. after asserting that. he would make a political announcement whether he got “put down or not,” became suddenly i«l on account of appendicitis and was removed to hospital and operated upon successfully. However, oeritonitis set in and at present is causing much anxiety and will continue to do so for the next 48 hours, since Mr Thompson’s general condition is rather poor. His speech was delivered later by a supporter and directed an attack upon the Chicago newspapers and Mrs McCormick. The speech caused astonishment in Chicago political circles and the newspapers found it r, too violently vituperative and filthy to print fully.”
