WHEAT QUOTA SCHEME
BRITISH REQUIREMENTS
DOMINIONS’ 55 PER CENT MUST TAKE WORLD PARITY HOME PRICE GUARANTEED [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! Received Nov. 2, 8.15 p.m. LONDON Nov. 1. The Australian press has authoritative grounds for saying that the wheat quota arrangement, will reserve 20 pot cent of Britain’s needs for homo growers and 55 per cent for Dominion growers, leaving Britain free to buy the remaining 25 per cent of her requirements where she likes. The Graham Committee provided statistics which prove that Britain must always reckon on Russia underselling. Tho figures showed that Russia, iu every instance, undercut the local market between 3d and 7d per bushel—a fact which largely ruicd out any idea of a duty on wheat. It is thought better to ensure the Dominionc a definite share of Britain’s market, taking the luck of world parity. It is the intention to give struggling British growers a guaranteed price of 55 shillings per quarter, whereas the Dominions will take world parity.
