EMPLOYEE DISMISSED
ASSISTANT STEALS CASH [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. Absolutely “gone to the bad,” and not worthy of any chance at all were the terms applied to Ernest Albert Edward Tier, electrician, aged 20, by Mr McNiel, the magistrate, to-day when sentencing him to six months’ gaol on a charge of stealing £l6 3s 9d from Gordon Griffiths, and three months’ gaol, to bo concurrent, for breach of probation. Tier had pleaded guilty. Tho police stated that Griffiths was a City Council meter reader who became lame and unable to walk fast enough, and asked Tier to help him. He paid Tier 5s a day out of his own pocket and told him on no account to accept money from householders. However, Tier did accept payments from insistent house holders and paid small amounts to Griffiths and retained the balance. Griffiths had had to repay tho stolen money to the City Council and had been dismissed for allowing Tier to help him.
