CHOICE OF REFORM MR. TAITE TE TOMO NAMED MAORI KING’S ENDORSEMENT SUCCESSOR FOR SIR MAUI
t Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON Sept. 14. The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. J. G. Coates, has officially endorsed the selection of Mr Taite Te Tomo as the Reform Party’s candidate for the Western Maori Party’s candidate for the Western Maori by-election. Taite Te Tomo was the organiser for the late Sir Maui Pomare for 19 years and he is conversant with political questions as they affeet the native population. His candidate has also received the endorsement of Te Rata Mahuta, the Maori “King” of the Waikato, and as a result he will find widespread support. Te Rata has issued a circular to Maori people in which he exhorts them to give their support to the Reform Party ’s official candidate at the election, and he states that he has agreed to Te Tomo standing for the seat in order to occupy Sir Maui’s place in Parliament for the remainder of its term.
