BOATS ON THE WAY KOMOS DUE YESTERDAY [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. The whaling ship Kosmos, en rout© from Sandefjord, Norway, accompanied by two chasers, is due at Wellington on Sunday evening. She will remain in port a few days to prepare for a voyage to the Ross Sea where she will engaged in whaling. This is tho vessel’s second trip to the Ross Sea and the Antarctic whaling grounds. Seven chasers attached to tho Kosmos arc berthed at the Glasgow wharf awaiting her arrival. Kosmos will be the first whaler to arrive for the 1930-31 season. Sir James Clark Ross and the C. Received Sept. 14, 7.21 p.m. GENEVA, Sept. 13-, Tho Whaling Convention which is coming before the Economic Committee during the present session provides for the issue of licenses by nations controlling whaling areas. Sir R. Borden, on behalf of Canada, moved an amendment in which the cooperation of Australia and New Zealand was sought giving the right of issue of such licenses if the nation deems it advisable. Canada is concerned about using floating factories whereby the wlulers avoid the necessity of putting into ports, or employing coastal stations. Tho draft whaling convention prohibits all cases of killing of calves, immature whales, and females whales accompanied by young. It also prescribes the fullest possible use of carcases, and prohibits tho engagement of gunners on terms whereby the renumeration depends entirely upon th< number of whales taken. It provides that no vessel of contraction parties shall take or treat whalei unless the license granted by the contracting party permits, or, at least, unless the owner has notified tho Government of his intention to employ a vessel whaling. Tho convention, would extend to all seas in the world and it will be concluded in three years, continuing thereafter by tacit consent.
