MANSLAUGHTER ALLEGED
A NEW PLYMOUTH CASE THE POLICE AND PRESS CRITICISED [ Per Press Association. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 13. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Abraham Wally Mahomed Salaman was remanded till September 29 on a charge of manslaughter and other summary offences. Counsel (Mr A. A. Bennett) protested against the alleged unfair police methods when brought before a Justice of the Peace on Friday in connection with the fixing of bail, also the alleged unfair Press comment in the report of tho arrest. Tho accused is a herbalist, and he is charged that, between July 30 and August 2, being an unregistered medical practitioner, ho did, in attending to and prescribing for a boy, Lyall Gordon Christie, of Fordell, Wanganui, fail to use competent skill and by improper medical treatment, unlawfully accelerated thq, death of Christie, thereby committing the crime of manslaughter.
