FAREWELL TO RHODES
OVATION FROM PAVILION LONDON, Sept. 12. When Wilfred Rhodes, the famous Yorkshire cricketer, was bowled for three in the closing stages of the match at Scarborough, he walked to the pavilion amid applause that could not have been greater had he made a double century. The crowd was saying goodbye to one of the greatest cricketers ever seen in first class cricket. When asked his feelings, Rhodes replied: “I cannot really say. I shall miss cricket, but a man cannot go on for ever.” Wyatt presented Rhodes with the ball, with which he had taken the last five wickets.
