“SUMMER HAS ARRIVED IN DANNEVIRKE,” SAYS OUR “PEDRO”

Dear Wendy,—l suppose you think that I am a nice one for not writing to you. You will have to excuse me for not writing, as we ’ don’t get the “Chronicle” here. When we ask for the Wanganui "Chronicle” they always say, "What kind of paper is that?” They have the "Chronicle” at the Library, but I don’t always go there. Dear Wendy, how is the weather up in Wanganui? The weather, here in Dannevirke has been lovely lately, it is just like summer. Our neighbour next to us has a lot of little lambs. We have lambs this year. Have you a pet lamb, Wendy ? You will excuse me for writing in pencil as mother is using the pen and ink. I saw in the "Chronicle” last Saturday fat the library) that Mr. Printerman hurt his head. I hope he is quite well now. Well, Wendy, dear, as news is scarce I will cease writing. How jolly of you to write this week, my dear. It is a pity you do not get the “Chronicle” regularly. You can if you care to have the Saturday’s issue sent to you for about 2s per three months. The weather here has been simply wonderful. The Weather Clerk has been most kind. The Jambs are dear, wee creatures, aren’t they? I do love to see them playing in the paddocks with their mothers. No, I have no pet lamb. Yes, Mr Printerman is now quite recovered. He asks me to thank ycu for your kindly inquiry. I shall be pleased to have the stamps.— Wendy.

"PURIRI.” Long Acre Valley.—Goodness, dear, but this is indeed a happy surprise. I could not help but wonder what could have become of you all this long while. Oh, yes, I know what a busy time this must be for the farmers. The lambs are dear, wee things, aren’t they? You would not expect holidays after a long absence from school, would you? I expect you all had much work to catch up. I am pleased to hear that the "Hut’s Gypsy” is now quite well again. Mr ’Flu Germ is a wretched old fellow, isn’t he?
