CHAMPIONSHIP RACE WANGANUI-TARANAKI CENTBB. NEW PLYMOUTH WINNER. WANGANUI WIN TEAMS RAC< The Wanganui and New Plymouth Harners competed for the WanganuiTaranaki Centre cross-country championship on Saturday afternoon ovei tue Bramwell course of GJ miles. The event was an outstand-ng success and credit is due to R. Edwards, secretary of the Wanganui Harriei Club, for the manner in which he mad* all tho arrangements and effectively tarried them out. Three Wanganui teams oif six men each and two New Plymouth teams or the same number, in addition to soma ten individual runners, started from the racecourse and finished on Sprig.ns Park. The runners had been timed to finish at the interval of tho Wanganui-Auckland match and evidence of the perfect arrangements waa shown when the winner, H. J. Brown, of New Plymouth, was half-way round the lap of the playing field as the whistle blew for half-time. The Race. The weather was ideal for the ma and the condition of the country good. Tho field got away to a splendid start and was well bunched for the first two miles. K. Johnston, upon whom the hopes of the Wanganui men were centred, led for the first mile and ahalf by some two yards from H. J. Brown, the Taranaki star. After two miles had been covered Brown led the field by three yards and, running with splendid action, drew away from Johnston.

C. Weller, the IG-ycar-old runner, placed the Wanganui colours third He was lying ninth in the field as the runners streamed past St. George’s school i'nd at Peake’s Road had passed threi men, placing him sixth.
