Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P. for Patea, has left on a trip to Western Australia.

The Rev. T. A. Brady, of Wellington, arrived in Wanganui yesterday to take up the pastorate of the Gonville Methodist Church.

Amongst the guests at Foster’s Hotel are: Messrs R. Kissling, E. R. Bouche (Auckland), J. D. Fraser (Liverpool), T. Smith. (Wairoa), K. Mcßcan Stewart (Hawke’s Bay), F. Duckworth (New Plymouth), and J. Wansbrough (Sydney).

Mr XV. Aitken, of Opunakc, who was injured when Pumahaka fell during the running of a second-day event at the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting last month, is making satisfactory progress in the Wanganui Hospital. It is anticipated that he will be an inmate of that institution for several weeks yet.

Mr H. R. Beauchamp, who leaves Wanganui next week on a trip to the Old Country, France and Germany, was farwelled by members of the Commercial Club last evening. The president (Mr C. G. Russell) and Messrs H. Hague-Smith, E. P. Sealey, T. Lovegrove, F. K. Turnbull and others spoke in appreciation of Mr Beauchamp as a business man and sportsman. Mr F. J. Hill, on behalf of members, presented the guest with a camera. Air Beauchamp suitably replied. He was toasted and wished a pleasant holiday and safe return.

Representatives of the Maintenance branch of the Railways Department met at the Wanganui office of the District Engineer on Monday, for the purpose of farewelling Mr H. Gillespie, Inspector of Permanent Ways, Aramoho, who is retiring after 40 years’ service. Mr H. W. Beasley, District Engineer, eulogised Air Gillespie’s services to the department, and expressed his personal regret at losing the services of such a tried and trusted officer. Expressions of goodwill were made by Messrs Beck, Wylie, Bowse, Lancaster, Brough and Lower, and Mr Beasley presented to Air Gillespie a gold Rothe ram watch and a complete smoker’s outfit. Air Gillespie left Wanganui on Thursday for Auckland where he will spend a holiday prior to taking up residence at Dunedin.
