MOTHER CRUELLY HOAXED
SON’S ALLEGED SUICIDE. WOLLONGONG, Nov 30. Mr Walker, Church of England Minister at Wollongong, New South Wales, one day received word from a lady in Campbelltown to arrange the details for the burial of her son, who, it was said, had committed suicide at Wollongong that morning. Mr Walker instigated inquiries, but was unable to ascertain any particulars. Sergeant Pye, of the Wollongong police, was then communicated with.
As the results of communication with the Campbelltown police, it was ascertained that the lady had received a telephone call purporting to come from Wollongong to the effect that her son had that morning committed suicide in
ae paddock of a well-known resident of Wollongong, and . had left a letter addressed to his mother and a young lady with whom he was acquainted. After a diligent search, the police ascertained that no such happening had occurred in the locality named. Neither had a telephone call gone through from Campbelltown to the number in Campbelltown where the message was received.
The Wollongong and Campbelltown police have definitely established that the telephone message was sent from Sydney, and that the person responsible is known. It is anticipated that further action will follow
