SYDNEY HOSPITALS
OVERCROWDING ALLEGED SYDNEY, Nov. 28. Sydney’s- three main hospitals are overcrowded. St. Vincents, Sydney, and the Prince Alfred Hospitals each coinplain of lack of space, and patients are being turned away daily. The cause given in each ease is the increasing number of accidents and casualty patients. The admission sistcr-at St. Vincent’s Hospital says that more than 200 patients arc awaiting .•.« there. “There are so many casualty patients. 7 ’ she said yesterday, “that we do lot know what to do. Wards are overtrowded, and there is a waiting list >f 110 for one ward for operations alone. ” Tables, garden scats, and even the floor have hern use 1 at Sydney Hospital to accommodate urgent cases. During the week there were 400 patients in the hospital which normally accommodates 360. Here again the waiting list is enormous. Th.- Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which can take 450 beds comfortably reports serious overcrowding. “More space” is the continual cry of the medical officers.
