BIG ROAD RACE TIMARU TO CHRISTCHURCH [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 30. The handicaps for next Saturday’s cycle race from Timaru to Christchurch include:— Scratch.—S. McCann (New Plymouth), H. G. Watson (Christchurch), and L. Hill (Brighton). Twelve minutes.—N. Bellringer (New Plymouth). Sixteen minutes.—E. Taylor Teinuka). Twenty-five minutes.—R. B. V. Oakland Timaru). Twenty-seven minutes.—F. Daw’son (Australia), and G. Horton (Ashburton). Thirty-one minutes.— ,A. Ralston (Otago), A. Betteridge (Ashfurton), and D. Edgar (Timaru). Thirty-five minutes.— W. Oakley (Tinwald). Forty minutes.—J. Chadderton (Ashburton), W. Gooch and H. Wilson (West Coast), C. Groves (Deel Forest), and C. Arnst (Temuka). Forty-two minutjes.— R. McLean (Timaru) and J. Havill (West Coast). AMATEUR ROAD RACE PALMERSTON TO WANGANUI A local event of interest to cyclists will be the amateur road race from Palmerston North to Wanganui on Saturday. The race will start at the Family Hotel, Rangitikei Street, Palmerston North at 12 noon, and finish at the Royal Hotel (over the bridge) Wanganui. Importance is attached to this contest in that the first prize is the John Bull 50-guinea challenge, cup, the most valuable amateur cup in New Zealand. The following handicaps have been declared:—D.
