Mr G. H. Swann, secretary of the Wellington Golf Club, is a visitor to Wanganui, to witness the golf tournament and is a guest at Foster’s Hotel.

The Mayor of Wanganui, Mr W. J. Rogers, left last evening for Wellington, to attend a meeting of the Council •of the Municipal Association of New Zealand to discuss the Tranport Amendment Bill

Turner, who has been agent at Wanganui for the Farmers’ Co-oper-ative Organisation Society h,p.s been appointed stock agent for the New Zealand Farmers Distributing Company, with headquarters at Wanganui. He commenced his new duties yesterday.

The death occurred at the residence of her brother, Mr T e H. Battle, Guyton Street, of Mrs L. McBeth, of Kiwitea, Foilding. The late Mrs Mcßeth is survived by two children, Mr F. S. Mcßeth, of Kiwitea, Feilding and Miss N. Mcßeth, of Wanganui.

Widespread regret will be felt at the fact that Mr A. D. Mackintosh, chairman of the Wanganui County Council, has been laid aside with illness during the past three weeks. He is a tireless worker in the interests of ratepayers and the public generally and their good wishes will be extended to him for a speedy recovery.

Mr Hubert Carter and three of his leading pupils, Mrs Olive Tarrant, of Wanganui, and Miss Mary Barnes and Mr Harold Ackroyd, of Hawera, have been engaged to supply the full programme of the Eltham Tennis Club’s annual concert on October 11, and also by the New Plymouth Choral Society for their forthcoming performance of “Merrie England” in November. At the annual meeting of the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Club held on Monday evening, feeling reference was made to the death of the late Mr W. W. Bramwell, by the president, Mr H. Fry. The deceased gentleman, he said, had been a member of the club for five years, the latter two of which he had hfeld the position of club captain. During his entire connection with the club he had been a zealous worker and he was greatly missed. It was decided to place on record Mr Bramwell’s services to the club. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the deceased was carried.
