BETTING CHARGES

TRANSACTIONS ALLEGED. THREE MEN BEFORE COURT. (Per Presg Association). GISBORNE, Sept. 30. As a sequel to an alleged betting transaction a well-known business man, William McKinnon, and two telegraphists, Wallace Fountain and Charles Thomas Clifford Hands, appeared befoi3 a J.P. thi s afternoon and were remanded till. October 10. McKinnon and Fountain were charged that, on August 15, 1921, at Gisborne, they did conspire with one another to defraud Arthur Yeo, of Napier, ,of £179 by means of a forged telegram. McKinnon and Hands were jointly charged with having on August 24, 1929, attempted to defraud Arthur Yeo, ,of Napier, of £l5O, by means of a false pretence, to wit, a forged telegram. Bail was allowed accused, self of £lOO and one surety of £lOO.
