PRINCE’S AIR ACTIVITIES

PERSONAL PILOT APPOINTED RUGBY, Sept. 25. Mr Fielden has been appointed personal pilot to the Prince of Wales. He was selected out of eighty members of the Reserve of the Royal Air Force who were considered for the post. It is understood the Prince does not propose to take out a pilot’s certificate, and a new Moth machine which he has purchased will be flown by Mr Fielden. As the aeroplane is fitted with dual controls, however, the Prince will sometimes fly it. When the Prince uses a Service machine, Squadron-Leader Don will as hitherto pilot it. For the past six months Mr Fielden has been employed as personal pilot to Captain Guest, chairman of the National Flying Services Company. They only recently returned, from an air trip to Africa. Last March Mr Fielden was awarded the Air Force Cross for distinguished 1 peace-time flying.
