She played a remarkably heady game in gaining an B—lo,8 —10, 6 —o, 6— 4 victory over a much more experienced British player. Miss Palfrey, with the development of a more vigorous service, will go far, for she is already an exceptional volleyer and extremely quick, as well as accurate on both fore and backhand. In other games Miss Betty Nuthall defeated Miss Gertrude Dwyer (New York) .6 —3, 6—l; Miss Helen Wills defeated Mrs Charlotte Homamer (Chapin), (1 —0. 6—l.
