WORKERS REFUSED OFFER UNDERTAKING NOW CLOSED [ J’er Px usb sbuclatiuu I DL'NEDJX, May 11. The Shag Burnt coal mine has been eloseu douu, throwing some 80 men uut of employment. In November, as the mine was not paying the manager told the men that no dividends had been paid for several years ano the directors were disinclined to curry on aftei the award expired in March, unless the working rates wer e reduced by 5 per cent. The workerg declined and tli 0 man:gement offered alternatively to hand over the mine to the men tu be worked under the supervision of the company’s manager on a partnership oasis. This was also refused.
Later at th e request of the Union, the Conciliation Commissioner held a conference, but without result.
