WANGANUI DISTRICT WORK HOSPITAL BOARD MEETS The Wanganui Hospital Board met yesterday, Dr. fSkerman presiding. There were also present: Miss M. Newcombe, Mrs .1. JSiddells and Messrs \\. Ritchie, T- 11. Battle, J. Aldridge, \\. J. Rogers, W- Broderick, Coleman, A. G. .Simpson and A. B. Harris. The House Commit tee, iu its report, recommended that the Board procure a cold scialytic light for the operating theatre, to cost £BO, as recomended by the luedical superintendent; and that the Board procure one small Potter bucky diaphragm size 12in x lUin. I from Messrs Watson and Son, Wellingi ton. to cost £75 as recommended by the | radiologist. With regard to the purchase of an electro-caruiograph to cost £54(1, thu committee would not recommend the Board to purchase this equipment. Acting ou the advice of the acting Director General of Health, the committee instructed .Mr James, the Board’s architect, to call tenders for I the isolation block, excluding plumbing, electric light, and heating, such work to be done by th e Board’s own staff. The tenders for th e isolation block were received and, after consideration, the secretary was instructed to forward them to Wellii ton for the approval of the Department of Health. Th e fees committee recommended that fees totalling £575 3s lid be written off, as at March 31, 1929, as follows: Wanganui Hospital maintenance £455 6s 2'l, x-Ray £l7 6s (id (in patients), £4 Is (out patients), ambulance 12 6s 6d; Wanganui sundry accounts £5 13s 3d; Taihape Hospital maintenance £9u 7s 6d. The report was adopted. The medical superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital reported that, at the beginning of March, there were 78 males and 59 female patients in the institution. During the month .142 males and 132 females were admitted; 111 males and 1"7 females were discharged; 8 males and 5 females died, leaving ) 101 males and 79 females. The Jubile e j Home had been visited and the health of lhe inmates was satisfactory. The report was adopted. Th ( . report of the matron of the Raetihi Hospital stated that 16 patients were admitted during March. Five remained in the hospital at the end the month. The report was adopted. The social welfare officer reported that 14 new cases were dealt with during the month and 11 were terminated, leaving 87 cases at March 31- Eleven casuals were assisted and 114 visits were made. Grants were made in 14 cases, the causes of distress being unemployment 6, sickness 6, desertion 2. The report was adopted. The salanes of the members of the staff win* dealt with by the Board in committee. Tenders were, received for the Litu men paving of the roads and paths around the Wanganui Hospital.
