REPORTS ADOPTED BUILDING WORK IN HAND Mr ,W. A. Collins presided at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board held yesterday. The following members were present: Messrs W. S. Woodroofe, M. H. Oram, E. F. Hemingway, A. S. Coleman, J e K. Hornblow, J. 8. Tingey, J. Aiken, and AV. Adams. The chairman’s report, which read as follows, was adopted:— “The Department has authorised grants for the installation uf a heating service at Patea School, and for the improvements to the school dental clinic accommodation at Palmerston North Central School. “The following tenders have boon accepted:—Russell Street, concrete work: J e T. J. Hcatley, £62 Jss; Wanganui Central Infants’; plumbing work in connection with out-offices: R. J. Bell, £59 10s; St. John’s Hill; joinery: Bassett and Co., £177; Terrace End; pulling down temporary class-roonp P i Matin, £lO 15s. The architect reports as follow*: Work Completed, “Marton Junction.—The work in connection with the erection of one new class-room and a tool and fuel shed has been completed. Rangataua: The whole of the exterior walls of the school, residence and out-buildings, have been painted in two coats. The interior walls of the school have similarly been dealt with. The roofs of ail buildings have been painted in one coat, iHokowhitu: The exterior walls of the school and out-buildings have been painted in two coats. Central Infants: [The old trough system has been removed from the out-oilices and wash-down | pedestal closets installed. Queen ’s Park: An overhaul of the windows, doors and interior fittings has been made, Gonville: Works of a minor naiture have been effected. Wanganui East: Works of a minor nature have [been effected. Kopane: The septic (tank and drainage lias been laid down [and now awaits the committee’s con- | rribution to the works, i.e., finding [water before the shifting of the buildling and the installation of pedestals lean be proceeded with. Longburn: The main storm water drain into which the • septic tank effluent was discharged, has ■ been taken up and relaid. This was I found necessary owing to blockage and ;damage by willow roots. Works in Hand. I “St. John’s ill: A start has been I made on the new building. The brickiwork foundation is nearing completion ■and a good deal of the woodwork has been prepared in readiness for fixing. Hunterville: The erection of the dental clinic has been completed with the exception of the painting work. This will be put in hand within the next few days. Teacher’s residence: The work of remodelling the back portion of this building and carrying out general renovations, has been advanced to such a measure as to bring its completion within sight. Utiku: Repairs to the buildings are well in hand, together with the painting of the exterior walls. The interior woodwork of the residence is being painted and the walls repapered. Proposed Work, ( “Waverley:: To commence with I the erection of the new building and I remodelling to existing building.” I The Education Department wrote noItifying grants for new buildings, land land additions to schools as follow: I. Ohakunc, for additional class-room; , Castlecliff side, for remodelling of .building; Owhango. for enlargement of (teacher’s residence; Hunterville, for purchase of additional land for school; ’ Patea, for installation of heating service. The Departmept notified its approval of the establishment of a household , school at Paparangi.
