BANK HOLIDAYS
BUSINESS MEN’S PROTEST. I Special “Chronicle” Service ] WELLINGTON, April 16. The matter of bank holidays is one which has been considered by the Associated Chambers of Commerce for some years past, and for the first time the Chambers are preparing for action in the matter. Following protests by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at the closure oi the banks last Christmas and New Year, Mr J. T. Grose, chairman of the Associated Banks, announced that the business community should prepare some schedule and submit it to the Associated banks for their consideration. This is now being done. The various Chambers arc being circularised and asked their opinion, and following this there will bo drawn up a list of holidays to be considered at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers in June. After this the banks will be asked to abolish their schedule of hol ; - days and substitute the schedule approved by the conference.
