BUSINESS OF PARLIAMENT
DAYLIGHT DELIBERATIONS [Per Presn Association.! WELLINGTON, April 16. The select committee set up to consider the amendment of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives with a view to the business of the House being transacted wholly in the hours of daylight, commenced its sittings at Parliament House this morning. For personal and other reasons, Mr Downio Stewart, the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr J. G. Coates, who were appointed to the committee, were not present. It is probable that the deliberations will continue for some days. Amongst those who expressed their views at the morning’s sitting was the Prime Minister, Sir J e G. Ward, who is one of the strongest advocates of the proposed new departure. It is understood that Sir Joseph favours the House sitting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 10.30 a.m. until 12.45 p.m t , resuming at 2.30 p.m. and rising for the day at 5.30 p.m.
