STOWAWAY ON STEAMER

A FREE TRIP TO SAMOA. SUVA. Dec. 3. Miss Flo Lewis, a talented American vaudeville artist, travelling to Austra lia by the Sierra last week, had an experience at Honolulu which she scarcely relished. Twelve months ago Miss Lewis gave a man two dollars at the door of an American theatre, in which, she was playing, because he was “broke.” Recently she “signed on” with J. C. Williamson and Company, in Australia, and. passing through Honolulu attracted the attention of the same man, who had drifted into the Hawaiian Islands. He said nothing, but stowed away on board the ship and lay low until the ship was well out at sea. Then he contrived to have notes sent to the actress, who, however, ignored them. When discovered by the crew the man claimed personal acquaintance with Miss Lewis, staring that she would pay his fare. But she was not going to be imposed upon, and the stowaway was landed at Pago Pago, to be sent back by the next steamer, probably after serving a term of imprisonment. Miss Lewis could not help pitying him as he left the ship and handed him 10 dollars to help him during his “visit” to Samoa.
