WHALING IN THE NORTH
GOOD SEASON REPORTED (Special ‘’Chronicle” Service.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 6. Summer whaling operations in the north practically closed last Saturday. No fewer than 2!) whales, which proved to be in prime condition, wore secured and towed to the boiling doYvn works at Whangamumu. The whales, with their calves, which are seen off Cape Brett, at this period of the year are travelling southwards. The next whaling season commences about June 1 next, that is, when the whales are returning northwards.
