FACING THE MUSIC

SWEDISH PRINCE INVOLVED IN FATAL MOTOR SMASH.

Prince Bertil, third son of the Crown Prince of Sweden, was recently driving a car when it turned over, killing a young man who was with him. As soon as the Crown Prince was informed, he took pains to impress upon the authorities the absolute necessity of holding an impartial inquiry in the usual way. without paying regard to the fact that it was the prince who was driving. An inquiry has been held, and the court finds that the accident was probably caused by the Prince’s companion who, at a dangerous point, interfered with the driving of the car, catching - hold of the Prince’s ann and giving a turn to the wheel. The Prince will, however, be prosecuted, because tho license held by him is available only for motor-bicyc|cs, not for cars. Prince Bertil was born in Stockholm in 1912. His mother, formerly Princess Margaret of Connaught, was the daughter of the Duke of Connaught, tho uncle of our present King. The Crown Princess died at Stockholm on May 1. 1920, and the Crown Prince of Sweden has married again, his second wife being Lady Louise Mountbatten.
