THE COMING SEASON ENTHUSIASM IN WANGANUI Prospects for motor boating in Wanganui this season orc bright, and with new blood on the executive there is every prospect that the successes of former years will be repeated. At the annual meeting of the club there was a large attendance and considerable enthusiasm was displayed. Vice-Commodore J. S. Wilson was in the chair. Allen and R. Linnscn; commodore, Mr J. 8. Wilson; vice-commodore, Mr G. Hawkins; rear-commodore, Mr H. Willis; handicapper, Mr D. Weir; assistant handicapper, Mr J. Boyd; starter, Mr A. Muller; judges, Messrs W. Draffin and H. Rowell; committee, Messrs R. J. Bell, J. Boyd, R. E. Cuthbertson, D. Paul, O. Alien, H. Masson, R. Bull, L. Dowling; hon. auditor, Mr E. J. Orchard; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr M. G. Bignell. Messrs R. E. Cuthbertson, I’. Hackett and J. Carlyle were elected active members.

The subscription fees were reduced by half.

It was decided to open the season on November 17 and it was further agreed that the use of the slip-way in future would be given free to financial members. Mr D. Weir moved that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to institute races for three classes: for boats under 10 miles an hour; 20 miles and hour and under, and over 20 miles an hour.—The motion was carried. On the motion of Mr H. Willis it was decided to place on record the club’s appreciation of the faithful services of the retiring secretary, Mr A. Muller. Mr Willis paid a tribute to the very able and tactful manner in which Mr Muller had always carried out, his secretarial duties. Mr R. E. Cuthbertson donated a valuable*trophy for the coming season. After the annual meeting a social function and the presentation of prizes* was hold.

Mr W. Ward presided at the piano, and items were given by Messrs J. Aitken, W. Burns, G. Swan and E. J. Orchard.

Among those present was Mr Amos, the manager of the last New Zealand Olympic team, who gave interesting details in connection with the team’s doings, and referred also to other events which, were won by competitors from other countries.
