BLACK WEEVEL
FEARS ILL-FOUNDED. £ Special "Chronicle” Sen ice. 1 WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. Fears that the Black, or “Australian” Wecvcl had obtained a footing in the Dominion have proved to be illfounded. R-ccently some mercantile houses in Dunedin raised the question and were asked to supply specimens of the weevils found for identification. Two specimens were sent forward, but neither was found to be the dreaded insect. Both were insects common throughout the world and often found attacking stored products. Various individuals, nervous of attack by the black weevil, have been asked to supply specimens of any found upon imported skins, but up to the present no such specimens have reached the Department of Agriculture.
