“Tired Tim’s” New Hotel

Many luxuries will be available for London tramps who call at the new Edmonton casual ward for 100 men and 30 women, erected at a cost of £22,000. Half the casuals will sleep in private wards, prettily distempered, well ventilated, warmed by hot-water pipes, and supplied with spring beds covered with mattresses, blanket, and sheet. Each ward is connected to the officers’ room by electric bells, and a tramp has only to push a button to bring along an attendant. A bathroom with a filed floor and daintily curtained cubicle should satisfy the most fastidious tramp. An electric saw has been installed to assist the tramps, who have to perform their allotted tasks of woodchopping, and wood-sawing. In the old workhouse, some of the tramps had to sleep on the floor and in the corridors because of overcrowding.
