Peer in the Stokehold
Lord Pentland, grandson of the Afarquess of Aberdeen, has been working in the stokehold of the Mauretania all the way across the Atlantic. He is studying to become an engineer, and this experience is part of his practical training. The young peer is not the first of his family to work with his hands. His uncle, Lord Dudley Gordon, the Marquess of Aberdeen’s second son, spent an apprenticeship of several years in a shipyard in Aberdeen. He used to be a familiar sight with his black face and grimy hands. He .is now associated with a big engineering works at Dartford.
