IDLE AND DISORDERLY
IMMIGRANT SENT TO GAOL [ Per Press Association. ] ASHBURTON, Sept. 14. Arthur Charles Fowler Gibb, aged 31, a recent arival from England, where he was an architect, surprised Court officials to-day by demanding a trial by jury on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. To avoid the expense the police withdrew this charge, and on a second count of being idle and disorderly in that he had no lawful means of support, accused was sentenced to three months’ gaol. Three times previously he has been convicted. The police stated that accused begged food in the Lowcliffe district, where he slept on sacks in a chaff store.
