Mr Ramsay MacDonald, after a month’s visit to Canada, sailed from Quebec for home yesterday.
•The New Zealand Minister of Labour (Hon. G. J. Anderson) sails from London for home on the Thermistocles on September 15. His health is much improved. A London message reports the death of Mr Howard Talbot, the composer and conductor. His greatest success was “A Chinese Honeymoon,” 1899. He had conducted at Daly’s, The Adelphi, and other theatres since 1900. He was born in New York, and was the son of Alexander Munkittrick, the name Talbot being ado-pted. Reference to the death of the late Sir William Sim was made at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board yesterday by the chairman. Mr A. G. Bigncll. It was rather a coincidence, he said, that the late Judge, who was a native of Wanganui, should be engaged in his last w'ork, on a matter of deep interest to Wanganui. He was an able man anil all his judgments were marked by careful thought. It was resolved that a letter bo sent to Sir William Sim’s family, expressing the sympathy of the Board.
