FORMER SHIP’S COOK SENTENCED TO GAOL
THEFT AND FRAUD. [ Per Press Association i WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. George Frederick Shaw, aged 24, formerly a cook on the Port Auckland, who either deserted or missed the vessel at New Plymouth last May, came before the Court to-day charged with the theft of £8 8s from a bedroom mate and clothing valued at £2 from the room of a lady boarder, and incurring a debt of £1 5s for board and lodgings by fraud, having represented that he was employed at Parliament House in a confidential capacity. He was sentenced to three months’ goal on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent.
The lady’s clothing was recovered from a pawnshop, where it had been lodged for six shillings. fr
