DOMINION’S NEW WEATHER STATION

COMPLETE PLANS [ Special “Chronicle” Service. 1 WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. It is a curious fact that after centuries of progress in the matter of meteorological observation and forecasting the weather scientist is still dependant upou that chart of shepherd and sailor—the sky. Evidence of this is contained in the plans of the first Dominion Meteorological Station, which is to be erected upon Wellington Terrace and for which the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research is asking from £l5OO to £2OOO. Besides ground-floor accommodation for the Director (Dr. E. Kidson), his professional assistants and the clerical staff, the new building contains a first-storey forecasting-room glassed in upon all sides and standing, in con-ning-tower fashion, in the midst of a flat roof. The roof is railed off and presents a quaint resemblance to a ship on land.
