“FOR VALOUR”

A REGIMENT’S RECORD BATTLE HONOURS TO BE REMEMBERED Eleven of the 17 battle honours of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, of which the regiment is so proud, will be emblazoned in fitting fashion on a regimental standard of splendid workmanship in time, it is hoped, for the 1929 camp. The design submitted by the regiment’s committee has been approved by General Headquarters in Wellington. Although the regiment was granted 16 battle honours for the. last war, only 10 are allowed to be displayed on the regimental colours. The engagements to be named on the main scrolls of the guidon are:—Defence of Anzac, Hill 60 (Anzac), Sari Bair, Rumani, Maghdaba-Rafah. Egypt 1915-1917, Gaza-Beersheba, Jaffa and Jordon (Amman), Palestine 1917-1918. Above the main badges will be a larger scroll with the battle honour, South Africa, 1899-1902. Beneath the badge will be the letters N.Z.

In conformity with all other mounted rifles regiments, the flag will be in the shape of a guidon. The standard will be made as far as possible in the regimental colours. It will be an amber base with a three inch black border surrounded by a fringe of amber and black interlined. The badge of the regiment will be designed in the centre. In natural colours, a pair of fern leaves will surround the badge. Ten amber scrolls will be across the leaves black borders, and on those scrolls will be emblazoned the ten battle honours of the Great War. A staff surmounted with a gold lion and crown has been designed to carry the guidon, while two heavy tassels in amber and black will hang from the lion and crown at the top of the staff. The guidon is being made in England and will probably bo available for the camp in 1929.
